Boardman Bikes, the award-winning world-class bicycle brand in conjunction with cycle retail partner Goldcross Cycles are pleased to announce their partnership with Australian Ironman Pete Jacobs – the reigning ‘King of Kona’.
Boardman, who started the journey to the Kona title with Pete in early 2011 has extended to a multi-year deal to include Goldcross Cycles from 2013 and beyond…
With PJ on board, this is great news for the multiple title-winning Boardman triathlon sponsorship programme – continuing the momentum achieved by the incredible results for our elite triathletes in 2012 – winning the men’s Olympic Gold and Bronze medals, the men’s ITU World title and the men’s Ironman World title.
“Here at Boardman we recognise the importance of world-class sponsorship allowing our bikes to be ridden by the best athletes in the world, putting the range through the toughest of tests. Although we are a young brand, our vision, passion and drive has quickly established a strong position within triathlon by supporting incredible talent – culminating in 2012 with incredible success across the board. We are really excited by continuing our successful partnership with Pete, his management company BPM Athlete Management and welcoming Goldcross Cycles as a co-sponsor. Pete is such an incredible athlete and a truly fantastic brand ambassador – his enthusiasm and passion is infectious and inspiring.” says Alan Ingarfield, CEO Boardman Bikes.
Jacobs rode the Aerodynamic Racing AiR/TT/9.8 to his Kona victory. The TT is the flagship of the range utilising all of British cycling legend Chris Boardman’s extensive cycling knowledge, experience and insight to create an incredibly quick TT bike – which following a super-quick bike section enables you to put in an incredible run split. Chris, as Head of R&D and the entire design team, take full advantage of PJ’s insight – continuously working together on developing the next generation of bikes. These bikes utilise the very latest technology with a focus on pure performance to optimise results – creating an advantage no matter what level you ride.
“Two years ago Boardman and I joined forces with the combined goal to win the Ironman World Championship. With the simplicity of strength and lightness we achieved runner up at Kona in 2011. Then in 2012, as my relationship with Chris Boardman, Alan Ingarfield, and the Boardman company grew, the knowledge, support and confidence I gained grew too. Confidence is key to success. Confidence in my training, my ability and my gear. Knowing I was spending the majority of the Ironman on a Boardman TT which has everything where it’s needed, and nowhere it doesn’t, gives it the lightness, stiffness and aerodynamics that gives me confidence. Having partnered with Boardman for my two most successful campaigns in Kona, the confidence we now have together to improve further on and off the course in all areas is unbeatable. I am very excited to be extending our partnership and building on our knowledge of how to get faster, together “and now with Goldcross on-board, 2013 is going to be really exciting.”
Chris Boardman is equally excited: “2012 was all about inspiring a generation and Pete embodies this philosophy and is a complete role model. Having the World’s best long distance triathlete riding and winning on a world-beating time trial bike, the AiR/TT 9.8, makes you feel incredibly proud and is very inspiring. Working closely with Pete, we always incorporate his feedback which informs our R&D and further pushes our boundaries with new technology, design and exciting new products – cascading throughout the range.”
The entire Boardman range is available at Goldcross Cycles.
“We are excited to be working with Pete and the world-class Boardman brand, consolidating our position as the destination of choice for all Australian cyclists. Our partnership with Pete and Boardman Bikes adds further momentum to our mission to inspire Australians to become fitter, happier and healthier by getting in the saddle.” said Rob Kain, Goldcross Cycles’ General Manager “Marketing.
2013 is going to be another incredible year. Pete will be starting the new season on the 3rd March at the Escape from Alcatraz event and is working on a race schedule for the season, with the main aim of retaining his ‘King of Kona’ crown later in the year and will also see him appearing in Australia very soon.
