This year’s Atmosphere Nepean Triathlon builds on the incredible generosity of Atmosophere Health and Fitness Club, Gulf Western Oil and Cellarbrations who put their hard earned towards the sport they love so much.
The professional field to date which includes the 6 Australian team members in the recent Commonwealth Games, Olympians, two USA athletes and elite Australian long course athletes chasing the record $76,500 prize money – it has to be the best triathlon field assembled in Australia for years and is going to be a cracker race.
The unique guys verses girls race handicap has come down to 10 minutes 18 seconds following Emma Moffatt’s outright win last year. A big interest is always the draft legal ITU athletes racing the non drafting athletes on a non drafting course – TA are providing 16 Technical Officials to officiate this aspect of the race.
The celebrity wave includes Glenn McGrath, Steve Waugh, Jana Pittman and Phil Kearns which is adding additional interest.
This year authorities have approved a one lap cycle to allow more competitors and this year a capacity 1400 will face the starter with a further 375 entered for the Saturday Enticer races.
