Geelong Multi Sport Festival – Get your ‘non-triathlon’ friends involved
Geelong's waterfront to buzz with multi-sport fest, inviting all ages to swim, run, and tri in community-focused events.
Geelong, Australia (January 24, 2013) Thousands of enthusiasts are set to descend on Geelong’s waterfront for the third annual Geelong Multi Sport Festival, February 8 to 10, 2013 with events designed for the entire community to participate in.
The festival is aimed to include an event for everyone and the striking backdrop that the Waterfront Geelong and Eastern Beach offer ensures everyone will enjoy the events on offer, from fun runs, mini-triathlons, team events, ocean swim, treasure hunts and more!
USM EVENTS/IRONMAN Asia-Pacific CEO, Geoff Meyer is delighted to once again deliver such an array of festival events specifically aimed at local participation.
“We know from experience that engaging with our community is one of the key factors in the success of events, encouraging locals to take some ownership and have involvement at any level translates into a product Geelong can be proud of.
“The support of our local community is paramount to the ongoing growth and development of this event and why we place a large emphasis on the festival events that are essentially aimed at local participation,” said Mr Meyer.
The Target Foreshore Fun Run supporting Give Where You Live is sure to be one that brings out our community spirit along with some creative costumes with participants being encouraged to support the cause by wearing something BLUE, with prizes for best dressed.
Supporting Geelong’s premier philanthropic organisation, Give Where You Live is a major priority as it will benefit the region. 50 percent of the entry fee into the 10km or 5km is being donated to the community partner, Give Where You Live.
Give Where You Live is Geelong’s leading charitable organisation dedicated to reducing education, income and health disadvantage in the Geelong Region, and works on one simple yet powerful concept: together, we achieve more.
“We are encouraging people to get into the spirit of things and support the BLUE theme for a great cause; we’d like to see some local ingenuity and creativity. It’s one of the many events on the festival program that anyone can do,” said Give Where You Live CEO, Bill Mithen.
The Target Enticer Corporate Triathlon supporting Give Where You Live is another way work colleagues, and family and friends of the community can participate.
With short, achievable distances, the Target Enticer Corporate Triathlon offers team or individual entries to compete in the 400m swim, 10km ride, and 4km run course.
“The team formats are designed to be fun, social and something everyone of any age can participate in, whether it’s with friends, family, work mates, sporting clubs or corporate organisations,” said Mr Meyer.
For the kids, the festival sees the return of the popular Geelong Independent Superkidz Triathlon on Saturday 9 February “a great opportunity for children to swim, ride, run, and tri!
The event is for children aged seven to 13 over a tailored safe course suitable for all abilities. Seven to 10-year-olds will complete a 100m swim, 3km cycle and 500m run. Kids aged 11-13 have a slightly longer course – 200m swim, 5km cycle and 1km run.
The Geelong 1000 Bay Swim will be another highlight of the Geelong Multi Sport Festival program offering a different option for those more adept to the water than land.
The timed, unique shaped course and format is not just for the elite but encourages people of all ages and abilities with categories from Tadpoles (Under 13) to Pioneers (70+).
