Ironman Age-Group Triathlete Kevin Moats’ Doping Suspension Upheld by Arbitrator

An independent arbitrator upheld the 8-year suspension of Ironman age-group triathlete, Kevin Moats, after he failed a drug test. Moats tested positive for exogenous (produced outside of the body) testosterone, a banned substance, and its metabolite. The positive sample was collected during pre-competition testing for the 2017 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. He did not apply for the required Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE).
Both the Ironman Anti-Doping Program and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) set the standards for the disciplinary action. Moats did not accept or appeal the decision, and the suspension began on 12th January. All of his competition results after October 12th, the day of the drug test, were declared null and void.
This is Moats’ second offence for exogenous testosterone use. After the first violation, the American Arbitration Association banned him, for one year, from all events under the jurisdiction of Ironman and WADA.
