Ironman Lake Placid: Swedish Sweep with Rasmus Svenningsson And Lisa Norden Claiming Victories

It was a Swedish domination with Rasmus and Lisa coming away with the win at Ironman Lake Placid. Rasmus with an impressive 8:13 and Lisa in 9:11.

Once again the Adirondack Mountains provided a picturesque backdrop for athletes from around the world for the 2021 ViewSPORT IRONMAN Lake Placid triathlon on Sunday, June 25. The 22nd edition of the event saw athletes swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run 26.2 miles through the region culminating in an exciting finish along Main Street just outside of the Olympic Oval. With some of the world’s best on hand, Rasmus Svenningsson (Sweden) and Lisa Norden (Sweden) took the top honors with finishing times of 8:13:25 and 9:11:26 respectively. Norden’s victory came during her first full-distance IRONMAN performance.

Rounding out the men’s professional podium was Arnaud Guilloux (France) who came in second with a finish time of 8:23:13 and Joe Skipper (Great Britain) who posted an 8:24:01 finishing time that was good for third place. On the female side, Heather Jackson (Bend, Oregon) took second in 9:18:52, while Joanna Ryter (Switzerland) finished in third with a time of 9:13:21.

The 2021 IRONMAN Lake Placid saw more than 1,700 athletes start the race leading athletes along a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run through Lake Placid. The swim took place in beautiful Mirror Lake, which serves as one of the best IRONMAN swim courses in the world. Once out of the water, athletes transitioned over to the 112-mile bike portion. The two-loop bike course traveled through the surrounding hills of the Adirondacks. Athletes were challenged with the 11-mile climb up the “notch” from Wilmington back to the transition area at Northwood School. Runners experienced a two-loop course that traveled through city center. Athletes were able to view the famed Olympic ski jumps before heading down scenic River Road and ending on Main Street for the finish line. The 2021 ViewSPORT IRONMAN Lake Placid offered 150 qualifying slots to the 2021 IRONMAN World Championship® in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.
