Jonny Brownlee Aims for Supertri E Glory and Inspires Future Athletes
Olympic medalist Jonny Brownlee returns to Supertri E in London, aiming for victory while championing youth participation in triathlon.
Jonny Brownlee, a three-time Olympic medallist, will begin his 2025 season at the Supertri E World Triathlon Championship in London on 5ht April. Racing at the London Aquatics Centre, Brownlee is eager to compete in front of a home crowd and encourage young athletes to embrace triathlon.
Brownlee, a British triathlon legend, sees this event as unfinished business. He raced the inaugural Supertri E in 2020 and its London debut in 2021 but has not been able to return since. An injury forced him to withdraw last year, but now he is ready to test himself in this high-intensity format.
“I am really looking forward to racing in front of British fans again,” Brownlee said. “Supertri E brings a unique challenge, and I love the innovation behind it. Having children attend for free is a great initiative—we need to inspire the next wave of athletes, and I am always happy to support that.”
Brownlee has long been a key figure in British triathlon, competing at the highest level for over a decade. He has won Olympic medals in three consecutive Games and has been a dominant presence in the sport, often racing alongside his brother, Alistair Brownlee.
Supertri E presents a different test from traditional triathlon formats. The high-intensity racing structure demands split-second decisions, precise transitions, and an ability to adapt under constant pressure. The format, which involves multiple back-to-back swim, bike, and run segments without breaks, rewards athletes with sharp tactical awareness and strong endurance. Brownlee’s experience and mental toughness make him a strong contender.
Beyond personal ambitions, Brownlee sees this event as a chance to give back to the sport. He remains a strong advocate for grassroots development, regularly mentoring young athletes and promoting initiatives that encourage participation in triathlon.
Brownlee joins a strong field that includes Olympic champion Cassandre Beaugrand and reigning Supertri E champion Chase McQueen. More athletes will be announced soon, setting the stage for an exciting and competitive event.
