A typo on Ironman Australia finishers' T-shirts ignites "shirtgate," prompting WTC to apologize and pledge swift action to honor athletes' achievements.
Part of the Ironman tradition is to get the coveted finishers T-Shirt. At Port Macquarie this year that T-Shirt was accompanied by incorrect spelling. Social media took off with it and in response to that WTC has issued this statement.
“After the enormous success of yesterday’s Toyota IRONMAN Australia, we are disappointed a mistake has occurred with the finisher T-shirt. We understand how much this memento of what each athlete achieved means to them. We are working on the situation.”
No doubt shirtgate will be resolved soon.
