Tiffany & Co. Has Designed and Crafted The Collins Cup
World-renowned jeweller Tiffany & Co. has designed and crafted the trophy to be awarded to the winning team of the eagerly awaited inaugural Collins Cup.
The Collins Cup is the PTO’s first-ever flagship event taking place on 28 August in Šamorín, near Bratislava, Slovakia. A new race format modelled after the Ryder Cup, the Collins Cup will pit teams of International, European and U.S. athletes against one another—putting the excitement, rivalry, drama and personalities of the triathlon on full display.
Tiffany & Co. has created the most revered symbols of athletic achievement in almost every notable field of sport for nearly two centuries. The moment of victory at major sporting events such as the Super Bowl®, the World Series® and the PGA® TOUR is commemorated for all time by the presentation of custom-designed trophies from Tiffany & Co. The Collins Cup—weighing 40 pounds, standing 34 inches tall and requiring over 100 hours of labour to craft by hand—is the latest design in Tiffany’s 160-year history of handcrafting sports trophies.
“The moment of victory at many major sporting events has been commemorated by the presentation of custom-designed trophies from Tiffany & Co.” said Andrew Hart, Senior Vice President, Tiffany & Co. “We are thrilled to add the sport of triathlon and the Collins Cup to our list of world class sporting events.”
Each trophy is realised at the hands of Tiffany’s artisans or “Makers” at the House’s renowned hollowware workshop in Cumberland, Rhode Island. Every design is stamped with hallmarks that evoke a planishing hammer in the shape of a T—a nod to Tiffany’s heritage of handcrafted metalwork—as well as “T & CO MAKERS,” “NY” and “AG925” or “AU750” depending on the metal used (sterling silver or gold, respectively).
“The Collins Cup is a momentous occasion for the sport of triathlon and the first triathlon event created by professionals for professionals,” said Sam Renouf, Chief Executive Officer, the PTO. “Tiffany & Co. has a long history in sport, having created historic cups and trophies for some of the most prestigious sporting events in the world, and I can think of no better partner to create the inaugural Collins Cup and help us celebrate this historic moment in triathlon history”.
